ChoosingMaterials -
What’s the difference between Quartz, Granite, Ceramic/Porcelain, Dekton and Silestone?
Quartz/Silestone are engineered and non‑porous. Granite is natural stone and typically needs sealing. Porcelain and Dekton are ultra‑compact sintered materials fired at high temperatures, excelling in heat, scratch and UV resistance. -
Are quartz worktops heat resistant?
They handle everyday warmth, but the resins can scorch with direct contact from hot pans or oven trays. Use trivets to protect the surface. -
Do granite worktops need sealing?
Yes—most granites benefit from periodic sealing (often yearly or as recommended) to reduce porosity and improve stain resistance. -
Are porcelain/ceramic worktops scratch and stain resistant?
They are highly resistant to scratches, stains, UV and chemicals. Clean with mild detergent and a soft cloth; avoid metal scouring pads. -
Can I put hot pans directly on Dekton?
Dekton tolerates high heat and thermal shock very well. Brief direct contact is typically fine, but trivets help preserve a perfect finish over time. -
How much do kitchen worktops cost?
Pricing depends on material, thickness, slab yield, edge profile, cut‑outs, splashbacks and installation complexity. Request a templated quote for accuracy. -
What thickness should I choose—20 mm or 30 mm?
20 mm provides a modern, lightweight look and is standard for many quartz/porcelain installs. 30 mm yields a chunkier profile and added rigidity. Both perform excellently when properly supported. -
How do I clean and maintain different worktops?
Daily: warm water + mild detergent; soft cloth. Quartz/Silestone: no sealing; avoid harsh solvents. Granite: reseal as advised; wipe spills quickly. Porcelain/Dekton: pH‑neutral cleaners. -
How long does templating and installation take?
Expect 1 day for templating, 7–14 days for fabrication, then 1 day for installation for most kitchens.
