Calacatta Quartz Overview
Calacatta marble is the best type of marble in the world. It’s a superior Italian marble found in a single quarry in the Apuan Mountains of Carrara in Tuscany. This rare, expensive style of marble is revered for its delicate light grey veining tinged with amber and gold accents.
From Ancient Rome to the Renaissance and Baroque architecture, Calacatta is the marble of choice for many of the world’s most famous marble structures. Its use in everything from iconic buildings to statues and cathedrals means when we think of marble, the distinct look of Calacatta comes to mind.
However, there are many different types of marble called Calacatta marble from quarries all over the world. These are not original Calacatta marble but are still extremely popular with a beautiful finish. For example, Calacatta Lincoln is an exceptional white marble quarried in America and used for the Lincoln Memorial plus other Washington structures.
Calacatta’s stunning appearance and status as a luxury stone still make it a top choice for use inexpensive homes, hotels and structures today. But what about a kitchen worktop?
Is Calacatta quartz a good alternative to marble?
Unfortunately, when it comes to your kitchen original Calacatta marble won’t look good for long. Like all marble, a Calacatta worktop will end up with all sorts of stains and damage within no time at all.
Marble is a porous stone so it’s highly absorbent. It’s also sensitive to acids and alkaline which rules out getting tons of food and drink, like lemon, red wine or vinegar as well as cleaning products anywhere near a Calacatta marble worktop.
And that’s not all. Scratches, abrasions, dropped objects and heat will all inflict more damage. However, there is a way to obtain a premium type of Calacatta worktop for your kitchen.
Calacatta quartz is manufactured to look exactly like Calacatta marble and even experts find it difficult to pinpoint any differences between the two. A Calacatta quartz worktop is designed to do all the practical things a Calacatta countertop can’t.
Calacatta quartz worktops are favoured for their highly resistant properties and magnificent appearance. You’ll get the same beautiful veining as the original Calacatta but a Calacatta quartz worktop will also resist scratches, abrasions, heat and spills.
Quartz worktops are one of the best types of kitchen worktops around, granite is the other. They’re made from crushed natural quartz crystals mixed with glue-like polymer resins to form a robust, long-lasting worktop with a stunning finish.
If you want a Calacatta countertop that will last, a Calacatta quartz worktop is the one to go for.
